As this latest round of the Accountability group wraps up, here’s a few ideas I’m leaving everyone with about changing habits and keeping promises to yourself. The book we’ve been working with is called “This Year I Will” and has lots of great tips for wherever you are in the change process.
Have a great weekend, everyone!
Keeping Promises to Yourself:
- Make it non-negotiable
- Make it actionable
- Come up with solutions to your usual excuses
- Use procrastination to your advantage (60% of the population is pressure prompted)-use an external deadline that you can’t change
- Schedule it in
- Do it daily
- Monitor your behavior (track/log/write/observe)
- Focus on the Horizon (How much you’ve done vs. how much to do)
- Take it one choice at a time
- Find someonewho’s doing what you want and imitate them
- Teach it to someone else
- Treat Yourself Kindly
