Winter, Light and Seasonal Depression

On Monday, December 7, Seattle had it’s darkest day in the last nine years. Literally, we got so little solar radiation that it seemed like dusk most of the day. When there is no light, doing anything is more difficult. (http://cliffmass.blogspot.com/2015/12/the-darkest-seattle-day-in-nine-years.html)

I’ve had my lightbox on for the last 45 minutes and it seems like a horrible thing to have to turn it off to head to an appointment outside the house. Just a thought, if you see us running slow, it might be due to lack of bright light. Now I’ve got a reason I can blame leaving all the lights on all the time. ūüôā

It’s a Blog Post! (Or Using Body Doubling for Something Productive)

So, another way of imposing structure on your life, especially with ADHD is to use structure established by others. While this seems counterintuitive to some of us, especially when you’re yearning for some freedom, what seems important is CHOOSING the structure. Right now, I just had an opportunity to join some friends at my corworking space in their “writing meet-up”. We’re writing for 30 minutes and then will take a break and see how things are going.

This is effective for me because there are others that have already determined much of the structure. They’re also acting as body doubles/mirors and I find it much easier to focus when there are others doing the same thing. Something about ADHD makes it very easy for me to mimic the energy and focus of those around me. So, here I am using it to my advantage.

No one is forcing me to sit here and write. But the focus and the short burst is good.

Imaginational Over-Excitability and Things Beyond My Control

disasterYep, ¬†Something happened. Imagine that! The only this is, I don’t know what it was. The part of me that likes to be in charge, just would like to know what happened as the rational and the creative part of me works to compensate for what I haven’t heard.

I had a meeting scheduled with a new client and it’s been radio silence. ¬†This individual is a busy professional, and I know this instinctively. ¬†I’ve followed up by email and voice, sent paperwork, kept my word and now the overexcitablity part of me wonders what I missed. ¬†The rational side goes, no, you did everything right.

overthinkingAs a keenly aware individual, who can also be oblivious, it’s hard to know when I’m compensating the right amount, too much, or not enough! ¬†Part of me can roll with the punches and change gears, but then I start to wonder what is too laissez faire. ¬† ¬†I could go on, but I won’t. ūüôā

Welcome to a small slice of my brain.
