Occasionally, I get asked about how I work with students on organization.  Part of the system I use is based off  The Organized Student by Donna Goldberg.  I like this because it sets up a clear and straightforward routine to helping with cleaning and saving my students from carrying more than strictly necessary.

We end up focusing on cleaning out the notebook in conjunction with comparing the student’s progress on the SOURCE, the Seattle School District’s online portal.  Having an organized notebook has let more than one student locate an item and hand it in, that wouldn’t have been counted otherwise.

She also outlines backpack and locker organization, which I focus on only on an as-needed basis. I would recommend this book to others looking to help students get on top of their paperwork.
